Catching Colours, Moments, and Birds
Hi, I am Vihangika.
This is my very first blog post, and I wanted to share a little bit of my story—how I found my love for photography, birds, and the beauty of life when everything else seems to be rushing past. I’ve always been a typical pahadi girl, growing up in a small village surrounded by nature. I remember the familiar birds like gauraiya (sparrow), shaintula (myna),pigeons, and crows fluttering around. Back then, I never really noticed them beyond what they were—justpart of the background of everyday life. Later, I moved to the city for higher studies. Destiny had other plans for me—I was given a project on birds. During one lecture, a professor showed us pictures of birds found in forests. I remember thinking, These birds must be hidden deep in the jungle; I’ll probably never see them myself. But then one day, I saw a small, shimmering purple bird outside my house. It was the same bird from that professor’s presentation—a Purple Sunbird! I couldn’t believe it.That moment changed everything for me. I realized the birds had always been there; I was just too busy to notice. Once I started paying attention, I began seeing birds everywhere—on my way to college, at the market, even while riding my scooty. Now, it feels like my eyes are always searching for them.

What amazes me most about birds is not just their different shapes and sizes, but their colours. Have you ever really stopped to notice how many colours are around us? Birds are like little explosions of colour, each feather carrying shades we often overlook.

One bird that really made me pause was the Wedge-tailed Pigeon. This is one of the birds that I clicked with my camera, and I got a really good picture. When I first saw it with my naked eyes, it looked like a simple green bird. But when I looked at the photograph, I was amazed to see just how many colours I could notice in it—shades of green, hints of blue, soft yellows, even purples and browns that I had completely missed before. Without the camera, I would never have seen how much beauty this one bird holds.
Photography has given me a reason to pause in this fast-moving world. When everything feels like a blur, picking up my camera makes me stop, breathe, and really see. It’s not just about snapping a picture—it’s about noticing the details we miss, the colours we overlook, and the life that surrounds us. Through my lens, I’ve learned to admire the quiet moments, the little details, and the magic in the everyday.
This blog is my way of sharing that with you—the wonder of slowing down, seeing the world through curious eyes, and finding beauty where you least expect it.
